Our project focuses on a model ecosystem above the Arctic circle in northern Sweden. Abisko Research Station has been in operation for more than a century, so has a wealth of long-term data available. Adjacent Stordalen Mire, where our field site examines a ‘natural’ permafrost thaw mosaic (i.e. no added localized heating), has been intensively studies since the 1970s, and was the site of the first wetland methane measurements. In addition, the Mire has extensive in-place instrumentation, including eddy flux towers, an autochamber system, and gas flux analyzers. Click here to view a drone fly-over.
